Guerriero del Mare 2019, Guerrieri

Guerriero del Mare 2019, Guerrieri

Date Tasted: 09/2022

I am very excited about this last discovery of the Biancame variety. I tasted a pretty exciting wine beyond the ordinary. My research concluded that Biancame is an ancient grape variety grown in Emilia-Romagna and Marche, Italy. It is a mid to late-ripening variety with medium-sized, thin, yellowish, often sprinkled with dots and brown skin spots.

Guerrieri winery produces this wine only in the best vintages from the estate's oldest vineyard. Late harvest, partial oak fermentation, and aged in oak barrels for over a year.

Appearance: Medium lemon colour.

Nose: It is complex and generous with a lovely bouquet of lemon, pear, nectarine and vanilla. The slight mineral notes add depth and layers.

Palate: It is full-bodied with a creamy texture. The flavour is dense with a core of citrus fruit, nectarine and vanilla. It is round and well-balanced, with high acidity and a long, complex aftertaste.

Drink or Hold: It is delicious now but can evolve for at least six years.

Food Pairing: Pasta with truffles.
