Honores 2015, Domaine Papagiannakos
Date Tasted: 7/2022
I firmly believe Savvatiano will be the next success story in the Greek wine scene. Not in the way Malagousia is now, but it could assist Assyrtiko in the path of fine wines. We already have several excellent examples of the variety's potential, but we still scratch the surface. If we count the attractive prices (for how long?), the package is very attractive. Wines like Honores are an ode to Savatiano and a reference point to support my point of view.
Appearance: Deep lemon colour with golden hues.
Nose: It has a fantastic complexity with layers of honeysuckle, violet, apple, pear, liquorice, bread dough and gunpowder.
Palate: It is almost full-bodied with a slightly oily texture. Round and soft with medium acidity and dense flavouring with spices, green fruits and minerality. The aftertaste is complex and lengthy.
Drink: It will continue to evolve for the next 3-4 years, but it is perfect now.
Food Pairing: Chicken souvlaki.
