Montevertine 2006

The winery's vineyards are located in Chianti Classico’s privileged area, presumably the most significant, renowned and historic Italian wine region. But at some point in 1981, tired from the continuous changes in legislation and requirements of Chianti Classico Consortium, Manetti -the owner- faced the mandatory inclusion of at least 10 per cent of the white grape Trebbiano since he believed it reduced the quality and finally left the Consortium. After that, and still today, Montevertine uses the broader IGT Toscana classification and builds his reputation throughout the wine world without the heavy Chianti Classico weapon on the label, but with his quality and his consistency. And Bravo! 

A blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grapes, classic Chianti blend, has matured for about 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels. The hand-picked grapes fermented in vitrified concrete vats without temperature control. It is unfiltered, and the bottled was by gravity.

Appearance: The colour is medium garnet with brown hues.

Nose: It is very complex, probably at its best, with red berries like redcurrant and cranberry and black fruits like plum and cherry combined by tar, cloves, cumin, hazelnut, tobacco, leather, mushroom, forest and so on. 

Palate: It has excellent balance with complexity continuing the same as on the nose, with high refreshing acidity, high but silky and juicy tannins, medium body and an almost long aftertaste. 

Drink: Drink it now is not suitable for further ageing.

Food Pairing: Try it with a plate of cold cuts and cheese.
