Negoska 2011, Domaine Dalamara
Date Tasted: 1/2021
The Damara family has deep wine roots in the region of Naoussa since 1840. Kostis Dalamaras is the last generation at the wheel of the Domaine and a pioneer winemaker. He belongs to a new generation of winemakers who are trying to explore the region limits and of the varieties as well. He experiments with new vinification techniques, cultivation practices and focuses on the hidden gems of indigenous grapes and grand cru plots.
This single-varietal Negoska is one of these experiments and one worth trying since it shows another variety’s profile, more structured and age-worthy.
Appearance: The colour is deep garnet with some ruby hues.
Nose: It is focused and quite complex with intense oaky notes yet in balance with the aromas of red fruits and the spices.
Palate: It is dry with good structure and high velvety tannins. The high acidity adds aliveness, and together with the flavours of red cherry, plum, cinnamon and cedar, create a palatable result. The aftertaste is juicy with a mix of red cherry and vanilla in an almost long finish.
Drink: It has entered into the drinkable period but can stay in the cellar for a couple of years.
Food Pairing: It paired well with beef steak but apart from this simple combination, try it with moussaka, grilled chicken and Smyrna meatballs.
