Paterberg GG 2018, St. Antony
Date Tasted: 4/2022
Although it has a lot of density and power, it lacks the grace that the best Pinot Noirs can achieve. Still, I firmly believe that Germany is an excellent source of high-quality, affordable Pinot Noir.
Appearance: Pale ruby colour.
Nose: It has an intense core of red and black fruits, mostly small berries like raspberry and blueberry, with a pleasant herbaceous layer full of asparagus and tomato leaf.
Palate: The fresh redcurrant is supported by earthy and graphite tones. It is dense with high, slightly rough tannins. The high acidity offers freshness and balance. It ends up with a long, tasty, complex aftertaste.
Drink or Hold: It is palatable now, but it will develop more in a few years.
Food Pairing: Duck filet with mushroom sauce.
