Savatiano 2008, Domaine Papagiannakos

Savatiano 2008, Domaine Papagiannakos

Date Tasted: 11/2021

Vassilis Papagiannakos's contribution to the transformation of Savatianos's notoriety and one of the most historic wine-producing regions in the world is admirable. However, if Vassilis did not make this effort, no one could have predicted what Savatiano would be like today. One of his many efforts is to age bottles in the cellar of the Estate and release them six years after the harvest to highlight the possibility of ageing the variety when the cultivation and winemaking maintain the goal of quality.

Appearance: Deep gold colour with some light amber hues.

Nose: It has a nutty aromatic profile with the deliberate oxidation being charming. Citrus fruit, apple, peach, and ginger are intense with a hint of mushrooms.

Palate: It is oily with sweet fruit flavours. It has a fantastic structure with an intense combination of honey, biscuit, marzipan and tobacco. It is a full-body wine with medium-plus acidity and a long-lasting aftertaste.

Drink: It is at its peak.

Food Pairing: Crispy bruschetta with Mediterranean herbs, mozzarella, and tomato are the perfect pairing.
