The Chocolate Block 2018, Boekenhoutskloof
Date Tasted: 2/2021
The name and appearance are quite misleading, and one will easily conclude that it is a German wine. But this diamond comes from South Africa and is excellent!
Appearance: The colour is deep ruby.
Nose: It is deep and complex, with all kind of wild berries, dried fruits and many spices.
Palate: It is balanced, and high alcohol creates a warm and sweet sense. It is full-body with intense flavours of leather, earth and game, high acidity and medium-plus silky tannins. The aftertaste is almost long and savoury.
Drink or Hold: It is enjoyable now but far away from its best.
Food Pairing: Try it with sausage stuffed with herbs and spices, pork in the oven and falafel.
