Akmèniné 2016, Sébastien Riffault
Date Tasted: 12/2020
While I was tasting this wine, I realized that in a blind tasting, I would never find the variety or the origin. It is far from any Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted, yet this is not a problem. Actually, it is so exciting that it looks no matter what the variety is or its place of origin. Nevertheless, the quality was outstanding, so, who cares? It was the kick start to write the article Wine Typicity and Beyond.
Appearance: The colour is medium bronze.
Nose: It has sweet aromas with a surprisingly complex profile that gushes candied stone fruits, quince jam, apple, grass, ginger and mushroom.
Palate: The complexity continues with honey and syrup notes. The body is medium to high and balanced well by the elevating acidity like a rocket starting from the ground, slowly accelerating until it reaches the top. Definitely worth a try.
Drink or Hold: It is delicious now but can age up to 7 years.
Food Pairing: Many dishes could go well with this wine, such as fish, chicken, pork but none like fresh goat cheese.
