Date Tasted: 4/2021

Firstly, I want to point out the amount of information that Pewsey Vale and Ridge Vineyards apply to their labels. Personally, I find it very useful and they are moving to the right way. I hope to see more of the Old World embrace that practice since the content has the ability to include the consumer in the experience.

Now, that Riesling was just awesome. Concentrated with depth and balance at such a level makes you feel guilty for the 24€ you just paid. If you consider the old vines and the five-year bottle ageing before release in the market, the word bargain takes another meaning.

Appearance: The colour is deep lemon with some green shadows.

Nose: Depth and complexity are ultra-high, starting from apple, pear, lemon peel, pineapple, grass, wet gravel, white pepper, bread dough, tobacco, mushroom and kerosene. Do not skip airing it even 24 hours or more.

Palate: It is marvellous with a silky touch. Again depth and complexity are showing its class. The acidity is high but balanced with a medium body and medium finish.

Drink or Hold: The producer gives a window until 2034, but who can resist?

Food Pairing: Personally, I like the synergy between boiled beans with lemon and Riesling. Apart from that, many dishes would match well from fish to poultry and from vegetables to pork.
