Cuvée Nykteri 2018, Estate Argyros

Cuvée Nykteri 2018, Estate Argyros

Date Tasted: 12/2021

Cuvée Nykteri is the third in line wine of the Cuvée series of the Estate Argyros. Through this series, the Estate tries to point out a more concentrated and bold style Assyrtiko worth a certain ageing period before reaching its top. Although the other two wines Cuvée Monsignori and Cuvée Evdemon, each one for different reasons, are impressive, Cuvée Nykteri does not seem to place at the same level.

Appearance: Deep lemon colour.

Nose: It needs time and airing to open up and start developing the salty and mineral aromatic profile one can find in a typical Santorini. The second day it was much more expressive. Lemon zest, honeysuckle, peach, cream, coconut, and brioche are embracing the unquestioned minerality.

Palate: What loses on the nose gains on the palate with extra intensity. It is bold and structured yet excellent balanced. It is a full-body wine with high acidity, wet stone and flint notes, and the aftertaste is almost long.

Drink or Hold: It is enjoyable now, but it will be better after 2023.

Food Pairing: It will be great on several occasions. Try it with a grouper or bbq short ribs if you feel adventurous.
