Hermannsberg GG 2016, Gut Hermannsberg

Hermannsberg GG 2016, Gut Hermannsberg

Date Tasted: 2/2022

Riesling and Assyrtiko share some common characteristics. The most notable are the ultra-high acidity, the aromas of lemon and the minerality, particularly in the wines of Santorini and the first-class Grosse Lage. However, it is still impressive that the taste notes of Hermannsberg GG are similar to those of Pyrite, one of the great wines of Santorini.

Hermannsberg is a 5,5-hectare monopole site surrounding the winery and the wine ages in the bottle for five years before it is realised in the market.

Appearance: Deep lemon colour.

Nose: The complexity and preciseness are incredible! It needs at least three hours airing, but it offers layers with floral notes, lemon, pear, wet gravel, and herbaceous hints.

Palate: The flavour intensity is impressive, offering grass, wet stone, melon and jasmine. It is a medium-bodied wine with a sharp acidity that brings freshness. The finish is long with a persistent grapefruit flavour.

Drink or Hold: It is great now and for the next decade.

Food Pairing: Tuna tataki, stir fry chicken, shrimp risotto.
