Tête de Cuvée 2018, Château Fuissé
Date Tasted: 10/2020
Pouilly-Fuissé is the appellation for the finest white wines of southern Burgundy's Maconnais region. They are produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in the communes of Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson. It currently covers around 800 hectares (2000 acres) of hillside vineyards, planted on limestone-rich clay soils over a granitic base. The typical Pouilly-Fuissé wine is full-bodied, ripe and relatively elegant, with the best examples rivalling their finest wines of the Cote de Beaune.
Château Fuissé is a leading producer of Chardonnay wines in the Pouilly-Fuissé région. The estate has been owned for many generations by the Vincent family. Tête de Cuvée is the standard bottling. The fruit is sourced from several different vineyard parcels. The fermentation takes place in Burgundian oak barrels, with 20% of them being new.
Appearance: Medium lemon-green colour.
Nose: It is ripe with stone and tropical fruits, honeysuckle, white pepper, cream, and cloves. Palate: The flavours are like aromas, high acidity, full-body, and a long peach-spice aftertaste.
Drink or Hold: Enjoyable now but with at least ten years of ageing potential.
Food Pairing: It paired perfectly with sautéed squid, bulgur, courgette flowers and celeriac cream.
