Tinto Bruto N.V., Quinta Do Ferro
Date Tasted: 8/2020
Directly from the winery in Portugal, we got some delicious traditional-method sparkling wines. Although this wine was not in our first choices, Micaela, who runs the winery, claimed that she loved this one cause it is so unique, and she was right! This sparkling red wine is fascinating. It has character and can easily combine meat-based dishes creating a playful pairing result.
Appearance: The stunning deep ruby colour reminds me of the robust red wines that Portugal is famous for.
Nose: It is fresh and ripe, with a complex aromatic compound. It starts with many red and blackberries, plum, dried fig, mint, spices and finishes with tobacco, coffee and leather.
Palate: It is dry, with high acidity that reveals excellent balance. The bubbles create a joyful mouth-filling, and despite the appearance that prepares you for a full body wine, it is quite slim with an almost long aftertaste.
Drink or Hold: Enjoyable now or in the next five years.
Food Pairing: Although it is paired well with smoked duck carpaccio with spice caramel and wild arugula, I recommend a medium-rare tagliata.
