Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2015, Virgo Moron

Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico Riserva 2015, Virgo Moron

Date Tasted: 11/2022

Amarone is one of the robust, richer, high-in-alcohol dry wines worldwide. It is produced only in Valpolicella, in the district of Veneto in Northern Italy and holds DOCG status. After the harvest, the grapes must dry under the shadow for more than 50 days before turning them into wine. The grapes are dried in specific facilities with controlled temperature and humidity conditions, except for a few exceptions, such as Monte dall'Ora, which chooses to continue to do it the traditional way. Since the drying period lasts too long, the quality of the picked grape must be perfect in order to avoid developing rot or mould. Amarone are wines that have spent a long time in oak barrels.

Appearance: Deep, impenetrable purple colour.

Nose: It has intense aromas of red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and ripe cranberry, supported by a thick layer of liquorice, cinnamon and clove spices. Tertiary aromas of earth and truffle mushrooms developed add complexity and depth.

Palate: It is full-bodied with intensity and vitality. Tannins are high but ripe and juicy. It has almost high acidity and a feast of spices such as cardamom, allspice and cloves that pair perfectly with plum and blueberry. The aftertaste is nearly long, yet delicious and juicy.

Drink or Hold: Great now and for the next 10 years.

Food Pairing: Juicy burger or suzukaki.
