CB Signature 2016, Domaine des Ouled Thaleb
Date Tasted: 1/2021
Before I tasted this wine in the question "Do you believe Morocco has serious viticulture and craft quality wines?" surely my answer would be much different. I did not manage to find pieces of information about the wine or the winery, but in short, this wine is considered as one of the highest quality in Morocco and expensive as well. The truth is that it is above a certain quality level, it is ripe but not overripe as one would expect from a warm region, and if you want a safe investment to start to taste Moroccan wines, this is a safe choice.
Appearance: The colour is deep purple and paints the glass.
Nose: It is intense with ripe black fruits, liquorice, nutmeg and leather.
Palate: It is rich with juicy tannins and a medium body. The acidity is medium to high and balances well the intense fruit flavours of sweet bramble, blueberry and the spice mix. The aftertaste is fruity, long and tasty.
Drink or Hold: It is very polished to drink now but can develop extra complexity after a short ageing period.
Food Pairing: It paired with pizzas, and by far, the most exciting combination was the one with the artichokes. But also, try it with slow-cooked beef in red sauce.
