Ladoix 1er Cru “Les Joyeuses” 2016, Domaine Michel Mallard

Ladoix 1er Cru “Les Joyeuses” 2016, Domaine Michel Mallard

Date Tasted: 11/2022

Ladoix is the northernmost village of Côte de Beaune and shares borders with the famous Aloxe-Corton. It holds Premier Cru vineyards but no Grand Cru. Although it produces red and white wines, the Premier Cru can be either red or white but not both. Les Joyeuses is a tiny parcel that sits on the lower slopes of the Corton hillside.

Appearance: Medium ruby colour.

Nose: It is intense and expressive, with a lovely core of red fruits like cherry and plum surrounded by charming spices and a subtle earthy and mineral layer.

Palate: It is medium-bodied with a high level of freshness and acidity. It is elegant but speaks volumes with a red fruit core and delicious spices like vanilla, clove and nutmeg. The tannins are silky and it has an almost long, fresh and complex aftertaste.

Drink: Drink it now and within the next three years.

Food Pairing: Salami and cold cuts.
