Taos 2015, Parparoussis

Taos 2015, Parparoussis

Date Tasted: 12/2023

Thanassis Parparoussis was a distinguished figure in the Greek wine scene. He belonged to the first wave of oenologists and winemakers who put faith in the Greek terroir and indigenous varieties. He started working those days with vision and insistence, so we enjoyed today's booming Greek wine. Although very respected among the wine professionals and with unquestionably high-quality wines, he never made a noise around his name or tried to establish himself as the best among the others.

A great piece of the terroir is the personality of the winemaker. And sometimes, in some great bottles, the wine's character reflects the winemaker's personality, or the opposite, if you prefer. Taos is one of these bottles: calm but not shy, complex yet not exuberant, and with something new to discover as time passes, enjoying every single sip. It is an emblematic label, the first bottled dry Mavrodaphne, and one of the finest Greek reds.

🍷 Appearance: Deep ruby colour with a few lovely garnet hues.

👃 Nose: The nose has intense aromas with a unique aromatic combination, such as red cherry, blackberry, and mushroom, and a thick layer of daphne, eucalyptus, and mint. The beautiful spice notes complete the whole.

👅 Palate: It is medium-bodied with fantastic balance and smooth, silky tannins that create an amazing texture. The flavours of redcurrant, plum and cardamom are intense.

💞 Finish: Medium-lasting yet complex aftertaste.

🍷 Drink or Hold: Delicious now and the next five years.

🍽️ Food Pairing: Pork briskets in the oven.
