Deux Dieux 2016, Aivalis Winery
Date Tasted: 6/2021
There is no dump that two noble red varieties in the hand of the right winemaker can give outstanding blend wines. Deux Dieux is the perfect example of the above argument. The indigenous Agiorgitiko, together with the cosmopolitan Syrah and possibly the greatest winemaker in the Nemea region, are a recipe for success!
Appearance: The colour is deep ruby and looks still too young.
Nose: The aromatic profile is ripe and super complex with a pronounced intensity. Black fruits mainly with all kinds of small berries. Some dried fruits, a lot of spices, and a base of chocolate, mocha coffee and even leather are there to blow up your olfactory senses.
Palate: It is dry with medium to high acidity. The tannins are almost high but with a velvety touch. It is a full-body wine, excellently balanced with the Syrah giving the character and the Agiorgitiko the flavour in a palatable result. The aftertaste is almost long flavoured with coffee and chocolate.
Drink or Hold: It is enjoyable now but do not hurry up to empty your cellar.
Food Pairing: A meat protein with a nice made coffee sauce will match just perfectly.
