Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2015, Emidio Pepe

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2015, Emidio Pepe

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2015, Emidio Pepe

Date Tasted: 5/2020

It is one of those wines with unique character and personality from a legendary producer in Abruzzo and Italy that you can feel is alive.

Appearance: The colour is deep ruby with hints of purple, no actual sign of ageing.

Nose: Medium intensity and still very youthful. It screams for decanting, with firm ripe berries, black plum, tar, violet and pepper coming up.

Palate: It is marvellous, concentrated and still showing wonderful red fruits and spices. The body is medium and the acidity almost high, with some firm backbone but resolved tannins in a superb structure. This wine is not babbling and has a long aftertaste.

Drink or Hold: It has matured enough to enjoy now, but still a long way off its best.

Food Pairing: Try it with spicy cold cuts and Italian cheese.
