Date Tasted: 9/2020

It is a legendary wine from a legendary producer who made his mark on all Santorini's island with his vinification approach and outstanding wines. De Louros is the name of a grand cru plot because it combines altitude (200 meters is a lot for Santorini) and old vines. Here we have a limited production of around 400 bottles, with 12 hours of skin contact and 24 months maturation in old barrels. It has a super complex quality supported by the excellent structure and high concentration, proving that it is a truly great wine.

Appearance: The colour is medium amber.

Nose: It has medium aromatic intensity with aromas of deliberate oxidation and bottle ageing such as toffee, almond, hazelnut, kerosene and petrol playing together with flint and sugared fruit.

Palate: It is astonishing to all stages from attack till the finish, with pronounced flavours like the sweet spoon, honey and dry nuts. The high acidity gives vividness and a never-ending aftertaste.

Drink: I firmly believe that if it opened two years earlier, it would be at its best, so drink it now and don't age it any longer.

Food Pairing: Try it with pork in the oven cooked in citrus juice and served with a chutney of stone fruits and crispy smoked bacon.
