Paliokalias 2017, Domaine Dalamara
Date Tasted: 3/2021
It is a pretty famous grand cru wine from the Naoussa region, Northern Greece, where the Xinomavro variety is the ultimate king. Also, the producer is one of the region's pioneers with many accomplishments.
Appearance: The colour is medium garnet.
Nose: When the cork pulled out, the room filled with strawberry jam. More red fruits and tomato leaf come up after a while, supported by black tea notes. Some mushroom and earthy notes have started to develop.
Palate: The red fruits are more mature on the palate that is still showing the nose aromas. The acidity is high, and the tannins as well. It has a precise concentration, but after the mid-palate is losing its weight and the aftertaste is medium-plus.
Hold: It just has started developing some noble tertiary aroma, so begin to open it in 2-3 years from now. Of course, it has more than a decade in front.
Food Pairing: I can not imagine a better food pairing than traditional Smyrna meatballs.
