Viognier 2010, Domaine Gerovassiliou

Viognier 2010, Domaine Gerovassiliou

Date Tasted: 11/2021

Even if Viognier might be the sexiest vine variety in the world, it does not attract close attention. Also, it is the only French grape that still the best wines come from its place of origin, Northern Rhone, and it is not easy to find alternatives from the new world like every other international grape. And, it is great when a high-quality wine with longevity comes from Greece like this one from Domaine Gerovassiliou.

Appearance: Deep gold colour.

Nose: It has explosive aromas like apricot and nectarine. It is intense with depth and multi-layered. The complexity is high with spiciness, tobacco and pistachio.

Palate: It is dry with medium acidity but good balance. It is a full-bodied wine with an oily sense. Again the spiciness is admirable with the support of mastic, honey notes and pink pepper. The aftertaste is complex and lasts for minutes.

Drink or Hold: It is a unique wine experience now, but it has not reached its top yet.

Food Pairing: Bruschetta with Mediterranean herbs and ingredients or a Niçoise salad will fit excellent.
