Wachenheimer Goldbächel 2015, Georg Mosbacher
Date Tasted: 12/2020
A beautiful Sunday morning in late September with mild autumn weather, we decided with my daughter to explore a little further the region of Pfalz. We had our breakfast, and after a half-hour driving, we reached the village Frost in the middle of the Pfalz region. I had already decided to visit the Georg Mosbacher winery since it belongs to the VDP association, and they own some of the most beautiful vine plots in the village. I could not have had more right. The hospitality was more than warm, and all the wines I had tasted delicious and above a certain level of quality. The Rieslings were terroir-driven, the Sauvignon Blanc charming and the Pinot Noir elegant. Do not miss a chance to visit them if you pass nearby.
Appearance: The colour is pale ruby with some garnet hues.
Nose: It has a beautiful aromatic profile with depth and oak notes supporting the aroma of ripe red berries, kirsch, liquorice, nutmeg, chocolate and graphite.
Palate: The complexity continues with high acidity, medium to high tannins that melt in the mouth, medium body and long elegant finish.
Drink or Hold: It can age for at least a decade if you can resist the temptation.
Food Pairing: It is one of those wines that you do not want to end. Try it with close friends and good music. Doors playlist is a great choice. Otherwise, try it with beef or duck with spicy sauce and risotto with wild mushrooms.
