Antigone 2004, Domaine Economou

Antigone 2004, Domaine Economou

Date Tasted: 1/2022

I guess the most noteworthy wine event of last year was the release of the wines of Giannis Oikonomou after a long waiting period. His idiosyncratic intelligence hit the market and the heart of every wine lover with plenty of new labels. But, without a doubt, the jewel in the crown is Antigone.

Appearance: Pale garnet colour with tawny hues.

Nose: It is simply amazing. It has a core with red cherry, tomato and strawberry supported with Mediterranean herbs and pink pepper. Grapefruit, apple and rose petals as well.

Palate: It has a deep elegant character with stunning balance and intensity without heaviness. It is super complex with a combination of nutmeg, wet leaves, mushroom and a core of red fruits. It is a medium-bodied wine with refreshing acidity and soft tannins with a long aftertaste.

Drink: Drink it now and for the next three years.

Food Pairing: Sautéed Shiitake Mushrooms, Risotto with Mushroom and thyme.
