Xinomavro Reserve Vieilles Vignes Barba Yannis 2017, Alpha Estate

Xinomavro Reserve Vieilles Vignes Barba Yannis 2017, Alpha Estate

Date Tasted: 12/2021

That wine is produced from a block named Barba Yannis with ungrafted bush vines more than 100 years old. It is aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle.

Appearance: Pale ruby colour.

Nose: It is charming on the nose with a core of red fruits like raspberry and red cherry supported by black pepper, liquorice and clove. The oak notes add complexity and layer.

Palate: It is unusual on the mouth for the variety. Everything is high, like the tannins and the acidity, but the balance is achieved. It looks full-bodied but is not heavy with a long aftertaste.

Drink or Hold: It is perfect now, but it has potential for long ageing.

Food Pairing: Goulash with veal.
